Stephen Salmond

Hi, thank you for taking time to read my Bio.

My Running Journey

When I look back to 2019, I was overweight, a heavy smoker of almost 30 years, seriously unfit, and—probably most important of all—becoming someone I wouldn't have wanted to live with. With a family to think about, I knew the only fair thing to do was make changes.

It started simply: I bought a pair of running trainers and finally decided to chuck the dreaded fags. I contacted several local running clubs and groups, and On the Run Cumbernauld stood out as the perfect fit—fully inclusive, supportive, and genuinely encouraging for beginner runners. So, I signed up. I've always believed in throwing myself head-first into a challenge.

Fast forward seven years, and the transformation has been life-changing:

 Over 100 park runs completed

 Countless 10K runs

 Double-figure half marathons

 5 marathons

 1 ultra marathon

 Qualified Jog Scotland Run Leader (2025)

What's next? I get a real buzz from helping others achieve their running goals, because I truly understand how hard those first steps can be. Becoming a Jog Scotland Run Leader allows me to share my journey and, hopefully, give others a glimpse of what their own future could look like.

My journey into 2026 continues with even more running adventures ahead—including more marathons and ultra marathons… all going well!
