Steven Bissett

I started running on my own in 2010 to try and lose weight/keep fit. I was instantly hooked, despite fears that I wasn't running properly, breathing correctly and other concerns that every beginner has had when they first start out. I first met members of the club when they welcomed me onto their bus to Edinburgh to run my first Half Marathon in May 2013.

When I became a Jog Leader in June 2016 I also took over the management of the club until I took a step back in Jun 2024 due to pressures of juggling family life, work and managing such a large club. From previously moving amongst the groups over the years I'm really enjoying focusing on my leading my own group. I have made some very good friends along my running journey. I now prefer the interaction and encouragement that comes with leading a group, and pacing others during races, as opposed to "going for a time". I ran my first Ultra at Glen Ogle 33 in Nov 24 and somehow still got up to dance at the Ceilidh afterwards.

Over the last few years my focus has been on the next generation, running with my teenage daughter at Park Run, and helping her train for 10Ks. I loved the fact that OTR members would come along and join us whilst she was training for her first 10K. After one run she turned to me and said "Dad, the running community is so friendly and supportive".

Why don't you come along and find out for yourselves.
